2005 BMW X5

Hi, I have a friend working on a 2005 BMW X5 with the 4.4L engine. He just changed the crankshaft position sensor since it was shown to be defective with a scan tool. Now the car has no error codes but when he tries to start it the engine only turns over but won't fire. He also says that when he checked the voltage he saw that he has positive voltage but doesn't have negative voltage. He is wondering if it has something to do with another broken sensor or the wiring. He also noted that when viewing live data on the scan tool he didn't get any RPM readings when trying to start it.

I am suspecting that he isn't getting fuel or spark. Any help would be great.

Odd are that the timing is off.

Have you checked the FAQ for the "no start" section? You can scroll down to crank no start and see if that helps.

What pieces needed to come off to access the sensor? I.E. what else did he touch while making the repair?
