2005 GMC Yukon trade

Hi Scotty, I need to know what a good across the board trade I could possibly get for this vehicle. It was inherited but it is too high off the ground. My handicapped husband is unable to get in it even with steps. He does not have the strength. I need an SUV, lower than this one which has heavy duty suspension, heavy duty trans, and tow package. Gigantic tires/wheels. It has power windows and door locks, cd/cassette/radio, 3rd row seating, power side mirrors, etc. I am in Phoenix, AZ. I cannot afford payments (will have other car reposessed, 2014 Ford Fusion, piece of CRAP. Only bought it because my husband is a Ford guy. I'm not.) so I'm wondering what kind of SUV and year I need to be looking for. I am not a mechanic, nor can I afford one to inspect the vehicle. I don't know if that Bluedriver scan would do me any good either. I am in desperate need. Can you help me? 🙁 🙁 🙁

Hi Old Cat.

I searched Phoenix Craigslist for similar Tahoe/Yukon and there are almost none with mileage as low as yours. I think you could fetch a good price for yours. Probably around $10k, if not more.

Here is an '07 with 87k miles for $16k

I think this particular one is very overpriced, but do your research.

Hopefully somebody here can recommend a good vehicle for you in that price ballpark.

I think you seriously need to think about your priorities though, and adjust your expectations.

First of all you say you want a heavy duty hauler. Well that is going to limit your selection greatly. You say you want something your physically afflicted husband can climb into, but you also want heavy duty suspension and gigantic tires. I just don't see how that's going to be possible.

You have the info backward. The Yukon I Have has the Heavy duty everything. I do not need any of it.

sorry. I misunderstood.

what about a Rav4?
Your Bluedriver will be a useful tool when looking at cars. Just plug it in and scan for trouble codes. It can alert you to some red flags.

Rav4 is too small. Need to be up higher (just not as high as the one I have), also need to be able to haul lumber. Thank you, though.

Forgot to add, I may not understand the codes on the Bluedriver so, I would have to refer to internet?

yes exactly.

if you want you can also ask here about a specific code

What do you think about this one at a dealer?

what do I think about what?

I used that link for carkiller.com. That's so cool and helpful. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

that's a good find. Have a mechanic check it out for you. If he gives the thumbs up , buy it.

Thanks. Can you ask if there is anyone in Phoenix, AZ with Bluedriver and knowledge to meet me there? I have to call to make sure it is still available, but don't want to commit without someone to help.

you're going to get a chunk of money from the Yukon. Invest $100 of it towards a local mechanic. It'll be well worth it. Or you can try lemon squad who does nation wide mobile inspection service.

I've been to edmunds and kbb. Max they say $4,000.00

I looked up lemon squad, they have really poor reviews. $179 is the lowest price and there are no refunds if you want to cancel. I did a google search and can't find a decent one near me. We use a shop for our other vehicles, but he probably wouldn't do it. I'll ask. He's a small shop we've been going to for years. I asked him if he could ask one of his guys to put on a starter on our 87 F150 for $50.00, he wasn't happy, said he'd call, he never did. I doubt he will help me out, but I'll ask.

I think Edmunds/KBB aren't reliable. Also they aren't accounting for the current high prices for used vehicles. Look at other vehicle listings and go by that. $4k is far too low.

Ask your friends/family/coworkers what mechanics they use.

I did a vin check on the Toyota...it was made in Japan and was only licensed in Arizona, USA. Scotty said the Japan manuf. models are better than the usa models. Is 11 years old enough to skip all the bad stuff Scotty has said about the newer Toyotas? BTW...I sent a request to the dealer. The vin check was Awesome! I would recommend the website to Everyone... https://vincheck.info

not sure which bad stuff you mean, but the 2010 Highlander should be fine if it checks out mechanically. The mileage is on the higher side.
The biggest issue those had was liftgate problems (carcomplaints.com)

Well I took it for a test drive. Not for me. No power. One of those people I always cuss about that can't get speed up to get on the freeway. Tried to pass someone on the ramp...ha...couldn't do it. The cruise control apparently was added as an afterthought...on the column BEHIND the steering wheel...you literally would have to look down to see it and it's a tiny little thing. What a joke. Nope, not for me.

I'm not surprised. 2.7L is a very undersized engine for such a large heavy SUV. The 3.3L V6 model would have better acceleration.
