Hi Scotty,

We just were given (inherited) a 2005 GMC Yukon (not a Denali, it's nothing fancy. It is too high for me to get into without a step stool and my husband is handicapped, so this is going to be a challenge). Has over 100,000 miles, auto trans. I haven't taken the time to look it over yet. The only records I have are for tire replacements and oil changes. We live in Hellizona (Arizona in the summertime).

We don't have money to take to a mechanic to get it checked out, I have a little car repair experience, my husband has a lot but his mind is foggy (age, health reasons). What should I keep a lookout/earout for?

Thanks,

Old Cat

It should be a good vehicle with some decent life left in it, so I would hang on to it. 2005 is before they started using engines that chewed themselves up.

Just keep up on regular maintenance per the owner's manual.

Please see my new post today.

Some things to look out for that year:  note, this is not a guarantee you will have these issues but something to be aware of.  Also, when was the transmission fluid last changed?  Does it shift fine?  You want to stay on top of the engine oil and transmission fluid changes to make them last as long as possible.  This was the generation before GM introduced cylinder deactivation and really started to go downhill, so these vehicles still have some life in them if will taken care of.  Just don’t expect all the electronics to be working as time marches on, and you will have to pick and choose your battles there.

Thank you Day Walker. Haven't decided if we will keep or not. But that's a lot of good info. Thank you once again.

you will get the best value if you trade it privately (using craigslist or whatever people use in your area)

Thanks MountainManJoe. I don't want to get sucker punched. I posted a new post today.

With that mileage I say sell or keep it as a weekend toy and do basic maintenance like oil change and new battery and should last more miles.

Thanks CarlJason98 I did a new post today.

Hi Scotty, Need to give you more info about the 2005 GMC Yukon I posted on this morning's podcast. I need to trade it. Have no money for payments. How do I proceed. Thanks

Is it 2WD or 4WD?
