2005 Jeep Liberty won't start

Topic starter

2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 3.7L engine. Battery is 3.5 years old. 3 year warranty. If car sits more than 8 hours it won't start, makes fast click/zzztzzztzzztzzzt sound as if battery is going bad. 2 parts dealers tested the battery (not a bench test) said it is fine. Should I buy a new battery? Bench test would take time would rather not.

Put a meter on the battery with the engine off.  It should be about 12.7 volts.  With the engine idling, it should read about 14.5 volts.  If not, you need a new battery, or a new alternator or both.

make sure your battery connections are clean and tight.

It sounds like your battery is bad. Test the battery after it sits for 8 hours or overnight. New batteries do not last as long as ones made in the past, so 3+ years might be past its lifetime.
