Low cylinder compression

2005 Taurus.

It was my dad’s car and I’m sentimental.
A mechanic told me that all six cylinders were low compression. I watched and they were uniformly low. It seemed to me that all cylinders being uniformly low is suspicious.  The car has 125,000 miles.

The car runs well and has lots of get up and go.  It burns very little oil.  Could the compression problem be something other than worn rings?

I also got recently a code indicating misfire.  Any advice would be very welcome.

Yeah that's weird for a 2005 Taurus with only 125,000 miles. Especially owned by a dad. (They tend to keep up on oil changes}

Pull the valve covers off, make sure the valves are closed and do a leak down test

It could be leaky valves. Do a wet vs. dry compression test.
