I own a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, 4.0 V6, 4Runner with 250,000 miles. When I accelerate the truck shakes back and forth until you let off the accelerator. When you get up to 40 mph the problem gets much worse. I took it to an autozone and had a scan and no codes came back. When you push on the accelerator fast or get to 40mph the check engine light comes on until you let off the accelerator. I read online about this and replaced the spark plugs and the engine coils, yet the problem still persists. Any ideas to what’s going on? Thanks!
If the check engine light comes on and off it indicates a cylinder missfire and the ECM should throw a P0300 and usually a cylinder fault like P0301 would indicate cyl number 1 as an example. P0302 is cyl 2 etc. But Autozone should have checked to see the history of faults instead of current faults. generally speaking its a sparkplug or coil or even a vacuum leak near that faulty cylinder is the problem but the precise way is to have the scanner hooked up and have it on the missfire menu then drive your vehicle at 40mph and see which cyl is missfiring when your truck starts to missfire or shake.
