I was going to pass someone doing about 50mph and heard a loud crack like a fire cracker. Not a normal sounding backfire. I lost 75% of my power and had to stay behind the person. Did not dare try to pass again. So after about 5 minutes of driving at about 55mph we get to a red light. The whole 5 minutes of this drive I can tell I'm lacking well over half power. I slow down for the light and get to around 10mph and the car dies. She started right back up but I had to drop it to neutral and keep a feather on the gas pedal to hold it at around 900 RPMs or it was going to stall again. Have to do this for maybe seven or eight more lights and get to where I'm going.
Stay there for about 4 or 5 hours and go and see if my car starts. She starts up sounds rough starts knocking but not like "it's gonna blow" more of a "well <profanity removed> that'll be a problem in the future". I checked the oil and it was a bit low so I added half quart to get it back in the green. So I do the two foot dance all the way home to make sure it doesn't stall. It's knocking a little bit louder but at the same time it gets me home just fine. I didn't get to look at it that night and also had to drive it in the morning to get to work. Work is about 45 minutes away.
I do the 2-ft dance again get to work just fine and finish out the day (story flavor I had 3 guys out of 4 call in so we were screwed for a straight 12hrs). Shift from hell ends and I head to my car. Started up pretty good sounded a little bit quieter than that morning actually and didn't stall right out as soon as I got it started and sat for a second. I get about 8 minutes from work and it starts back firing and sputtering loudly and before I can get a quarter mile down the road to a safe place it completely dies will not restart. No power to the dashboard nothing. So I started messing with the battery wires I got nowhere with that so I ended up calling the tow truck. Sitting there for 45 minutes messing around with it I'm irritated to all hell at this point so I put the key in and turn it to the on position and I'm just sitting there looking up at the ceiling like I just need to roll up my windows it's going to rain. I started hearing clicking and saw flickering. It had miraculously randomly got power back after the key was in an in the on position for well over 20 seconds. So I got my windows rolled up wrecker gets there $200 later I'm home. This is where the story gets heartbreaking.
After new battery connections, new ignition switch and dealing with a bunch of run-around crap I finally got it to keep power. Still would not start but it actually started turning over. I said okay it's about time for spark plugs anyway so I'll guess I'll do those. So the first spark plug was fouled and look to being about in the exact state I would expect for how old it is. I pull out the second coil pack and oil starts draining out of the coil pack as well as the rubber staying inside of the plug well. I retrieved the rubber part of the coil pack and was able to pull the spark plug out. Spark plug looked a little bit worse off but not crazy. Third one coil pack was cracked and fourth one looked like it had been replaced shortly before I got the vehicle. So I just put all new coil packs and plugs in it. Now after doing that it will not start at all. It will turn over and over and over and we have voltage going to our injectors and our coil packs. I've been out there testing things and cranking on it for about 4 hours so I'm charging the battery back up right now. I've checked all the fuses that I can find. I verified that I get 12 volts a ground and 2.7 volts to each one of the coil packs I have a 12 volt and ground on at least the first injector but I'm not getting any type of detonation whatsoever so I have to kind of believe that the fuel is not getting to them. I do hear the fuel pump prime properly but I'm not seeing any gallons per hour increase via torque (app with Bluetooth obd2 dongle) only code I have right now is a coolant temperature sensor code. I have tried jumping it with another vehicle but I'm still haunted by the sounds of the horn like noise when I first started trying to turn it over. I don't have a compression tester and can't get the top valve cover off right now.

I apologize. I will keep it completely pg from now on.
Only with a complete rebuild.
Your engine is toast.
I do believe so too. I just got done putting it on the main thread. Probably should have just made it a pole at this point.
"Will it survive" (YES) (NO)
Sorry to bump an old thread.
