Can you tell me about any known problems with the 2006 Toyota Corolla LE with and automatic transmission? Mine has 135,000 miles and runs great and I want to prepare myself.
They are fairly solid car’s mechanically. If you maintain it properly you shouldn’t have anything major on the horizon. Here’s a list of common issues you MIGHT encounter.
1. Oil Consumption, some engines would burn a quart of oil every 1500-3000 miles. Which is more than Toyotas normal 1 quart per 5000 miles. Personally I use full synthetic and change mine every 3k. It’s just really dark brown then, where at 5000 it’s black.
2. At higher mileages you can expect to have to change the passenger side motor mount. Not an expensive task.
3. Get cans of Throttle Body and Mass Air flow sensor cleaner. I would clean them now and then again every 10-15k miles going forward. I’ll add a comment below with Scotty’s video on this.
4. When you can replace your gas cap, oil fill cap and radiator cap. The rubber seals at your cars age are likely done. A worn gas cap can make the check engine light pop on. Something you won’t have to worry about later. And the other two will eventually leak. They’re cheap just to easier go ahead and do when you have spare pocket change.
5. Have you had the transmission serviced every 30k miles? If not I would have a shop just change what’s in the pan, clean the pan, change the filter and put it back together. Don’t do a full fluid change and don’t do a transmission flush. Then repeat every 30k.
