2006 Toyota corolla 1ZZFE engine 201k miles Automatic transmission
About a month and a half ago, My speedometer and odometer stopped working and 4 lights came one. Check engine, ABS, Break, and tire pressure lights all came on. Scanner read a speed sensor issue but my 06 corolla doesn't have a speed sensor in the transmission and all 4 of the speed sensors on the wheels are working fine. 2 different mechanics couldn't figure it out so I finally took it to a Toyota dealership and after 2 days they told me that I had a bad "ABS Actuator Pump." Well that part is discontinued and they wont put in used parts so I ordered one off of a certified junkyard on ebay and got that put in by a different mechanic, one that I trust. That temporarily solved the problem...all the lights went off the dash including the check engine and the speedometer and odometer started working again. After 1 week however, all lights came back on again and the sped and odom stopped working again.
I wouldn't have any issue with this if the check engine light wasn't on and the shifting became sporadic but being in Ohio and having to get an Ohio e-check, I will fail that and the funky shift isn't very fun either. It seems like no mechanic has ever seen this issue before. I believe it is more electrical than anything as the windshield wipers also behave differently and sometimes the my radio will turn completely off. So basically other little things have popped up, only when the speedometer stopped working. When speedometer works, everything else works just fine.
Other than this, the car is perfectly fine and I don't want to have to get rid of it because it cant pass an e-check or the transmission goes bad because it doesn't know when to shift.
Well sounds to me like the transformation is starting to go out. Certainly they are feedback systems, but the other system isn't really going to make shifting get wonky. That's all internal to the transmission.
