I replaced my timing belt (prior to removal I set my timing marks on crankshaft and cams) and now I get a code P0016 (camshaft/cranksaft alignment off) permanent fault code. The car starts and seems to run well, but I get a permanent fault code on my scanner and a misfire code. What's the best method of setting TDC to ensure my timing belt is properly installed? Is it likely that my cam and/or crankshaft sensors are faulty?
Unfortunately it was a variable valve timing and when you change that belt if you did not use a cam locking tool you're never going to be able to set it right you're going to have to pay a Lexus mechanic who is a pro to reset the whole thing those are very complex variable valve timing systems that you can easily have them installed incorrectly if you don't have the tools
