Hello all. My grandparents have owned a 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca since new. They are offering to sell it to me for $1000. It's 20 years old and it has just about 200k on it, but it still runs great and has been very well taken care of since new with all the regular oil changes and maintenance. Is it a good buy? I know Subarus aren't Toyotas or Hondas and that their engines and AWD systems can be hard to work on plus B9 Tribecas are extremely rare but it almost feels like for $1000 it's too good a deal to pass up. Let me know what you think, thanks!!!
Just a friendly heads up, you posted this three times. The system is slow to respond sometimes. When your post finally gets submitted, it posts as many times as you clicked the submit button. Please be patient, as it creates more work for the moderators on this site. There is a "working" icon that generates in the upper right-hand corner when you've hit submit. If you see that icon, please don't hit submit again. The system is processing your request.
As far as the meat of your post, you can't buy anything that's halfway decent for $1000 these days. If it runs and drives, you're making off like a bandit. I think there are lots of mechanical parts available, but if you ever need any bodywork, it is going to be hard to come by.
@justin-shepherd Thanks!! Sorry about the triple post, been a while since I've been on here!!
Hard to go wrong for $1000 if it runs and drives OK and passes any state inspection that might be required. However you should be prepared to ditch the thing the first time something expensive goes wrong with it. (If you even just get a year's use before it craters on you you'll be ahead of the game.)
That model is equipped with Subaru's flat-six engine, which is tough to work on and expensive to have fixed when repairs are needed. It's also a gas hog. Better news is they are not as prone to blowing head gaskets as Subarus's 2.5 4-cylinder boxer engine of that time period.
