if the condition that triggers the trouble code is rectified, then the light should automatically turn off after a few drive cycles.

What was the code? There is no code that tells you the O2 sensor is faulty. The code only tells you there is a problem in that system or circuit which may have multiple causes. You may or may not have fixed the actual problem. Did you test the O2 sensor before you replaced it? Did you install an OEM sensor?

It can take time for the check engine light to reset after a problem is repaired. You can elect to clear the code (if not a permanent code), but that will put the OBD2 readiness monitors into a not-ready state until the drive cycle is completed. (Those monitors need to be "ready" if you need to get the car through emissions inspection.)

thanks the code was a p2195 code,  it said online it could be a bad oxygen sensor so i took a chance and replaced it , im trying to save money and do the repair on my own instead of a shop,  it was a new oem denso o2 sensor i put in ok thanks

If that was the actual problem then the CE light should go out after a little while. However you could elect to clear the code manually and see if it comes back. There are quite a few things other than the sensor itself that can trigger P2195 code though, hopefully it was actually the sensor.
