AC compressor doesn't turn on

Hey Scotty. Love the channel. I got this 07 rdx for my wife and it's juat a great vehicle still feels brand new at 170k miles. I got some r134a to top up the AC. First start in the morning out of the garage the AC blows ice cold. Once the car sits out in summer heat all day at work the compressor just won't kick In. I tried changing the relay for that clutch and that did nothing.

I did the same r134a top up on my audi s4 and it's working perfect for me.

Thanks in advance from the great white north, where we still hit 100f!

Well I drive the compressor is wearing out I suppose. But when it doesn't turn check the pressures. Because if the pressure is too high, you may have added too much. Refrigerant and then the compressor will be shut off by the computer

Scotty's explanation sounds logical, the AC system is probably overcharged and the computer won't let the compressor turn on when the car is hot due to pressure being too high. To verify this you'd need to use a high-level bidirectional scanner that can read and test the sensors in the air conditioning system.

The problem is that modern AC systems are very sensitive to being even a few ounces off the factory refrigerant load. Sometimes you can get away with topping up if you're careful (as you did with the Audi), but it's easy to miss the mark.

With modern variable-displacement, electronically-controlled compressors you cannot judge refrigerant level by pressures. The only way to know you have the correct amount is to evacuate and recharge the system.

I suppose that's possible. When I put the compressor relay out and in its clicking over still, so it seems like the hvac controls are still calling for AC.
That's a bummer, I topped refrigerant up a little at a time to avoid over charging.
