Looking at purchasing a 2018 Subaru Forester Premium with 47,588 miles. (Transmission 6-speed CVT /Drivetrain All-wheel Drive/ Engine H-4 cyl)
Generally would you say this is a good car?
It has a clean car fax. The only thing it had was in 2020 the AC condenser had to be replaced.
thank you
6-speed CVT
This doesnt make sense, its either a 6-speed or a CVT. Turbo or non turbo?
They're solid cars, better built than most.
Carfax isn't 100% accurate.
Ultimately depends on the price, and the maintenance history. Oil changes are critical on those boxers.
Sorry, i had just copy and pasted from the dealership website description of it.
Thank you for the feedback. I’ll attack a screenshot of the description
They can be decent cars, though in general not as long lasting as a Toyota or Honda.
You didn't mention price. Especially if at a dealer they may be asking nearly as much or even more than a new car would cost. The AC condenser being replaced suggests that the car may have been involved in a front-end collision. ("Clean Carfax" is meaningless. Not everything is reported to them.)
Be sure to have a good mechanic give it a thorough inspection before purchase. (Many people will do that after buying a used car but by then it's too late.)
Thanks ! Price is $20,999 and got it down to $340/ month with a 1500 down payment

It's a CVT but set up to mimic a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission, so there are fake "shift" points that you feel while driving.
hm. didnt realize that was around in 2018, thought it was a bit newer tech. Thanks for the correction
The other option is a 2019 Honda CRV LX with 54,000miles at $24000 and $373/month . I know it’s probably the better choice but I’ve always wanted a Subaru 🥲

What are the terms of that loan? Must be at least 5 years, depending on interest rate. Checking online it looks like the base price of a brand new 2024 Toyota Corolla is only about $1000 more than that 6-year-old Subaru.
72 months. I’m in MS and it’s been the best deal i could find with the lower miles. But the other option is a 2019 Honda CRV lx with 54k miles at $372/month 72 months
Paying for a 6-year-old used car for 6 years sounds like a really bad idea, especially when you can buy a brand new car for not a whole lot more money.
This is true…
I did look at a few new cars and the monthly payments were at around $500 on 2 different Subarus. They were not Imprezas though.
It's your money and you can do what you want, but I'd be inclined to buy a new car instead even if it's not quite what I was looking for. You won't enjoy having a car payment and paying for repairs at the same time which is much more likely with those used vehicles than a brand new one.
Thanks for your input !

If you really want a Subaru you could buy a brand-new 2024 Impreza hatchback for about $24,000.
True! I’m not a huge fan of the Imprezas. Size wise i was looking for a forester or an outback
