2008 Mazda 3 with active parking brake light on console

My daughter has a 2008 Mazda 3 with 126,000 miles on it.  It runs pretty well, engine is clean and its never been in any accidents. Recently she told me she see's the parking brake light come on from time to time- it will go away then return. I plugged in my BlueDriver scanner and no codes pop up.. totally clean.  I turned on the car and engaged the brake.  Put the car in drive and gave it a little gas, the brake held.  Put the car in reverse and gave it a little gas, the brake held.  I released the brake and the brake light in the console remained on.  At this point I think it may be something like a loose pin in the harness that attaches to the console but I'm not sure.  Is there something else I could be missing here?  Thank you for your time and wisdom on this.

hows the brake fluid level?

maybe the switch is a little janky

Brake fluid level is perfect right now, no leaks found around indicating loss. Brake pedal function is good with no spongy feeling or sinking to the floor. It recently had the full fluid checked/changed. I also don't hear dragging like the parking brake is partially engaged. It rolls freely.

is the parking brake a lever style, or foot pedal? Either way, maybe something is preventing it from retracting all the way, like a coin or pistachio shell.

It is a lever style on this car. I had a chuckle about the shells though.. *checks for rogue shells*

Check all the parking brake cables, levers and linkage for cleanliness and lubrication.
