Hello everyone,
I drive 2014 Honda CRV LX with 60k kms. Last year, at dealership told me that the oil pressure sending unit must be replaced.
today, I hear the unknown noise when I am starting the car first time and it goes away after awhile. This is a recording of noise. Would replacing oil pressure sending unit solve this problem?
No it wouldn't realize all the oil sending unit does is report the pressure to the computer. If your engine makes noise you actually have low pressure which means the pump is wearing out or you have internal clogs in the system that's clogged in the oil system out and it would need flushing out and changing
Or could it be due to oil leakage? They said, oil is leaking from there.
No, unless you are too low on oil. Have they shown you the leak?
No, they just told me it needs be to replaced and dangerous because of leakage. What would be the fix? What do I have to ask them to fix?
Ask them to show you what is exactly leaking and how much. Maybe they can take a picture. If I were you, I would take the car to an honest independent mechanic and have him check it, do not trust the dealers.
Thank you for advice. Last year, I went to independent mechanic for starter motor repair. But he charged more than Honda dealership charges.
It is an unfortuante situation. The point I'm stressing on is that most dealerships and chain stores (Midas, ...) have a tendency to sell you stuff you do not need. If you decided to do business with dealerships, it is always a good idea to at least get a second opinion from an honest independent shop.
How to find a honest independent mechanic shop?
If you're talking about the rattling at the 8-9 second mark: (IMO it sounds a bit rough in general)
This sounds, to me, like a VVT sprocket issue.
VVT sprockets on some cars use the engine oil pressure to function.
Also, realize that the "oil pressure sending unit" diagnosis might be wrong, you may actually have an oil pressure system.
Either way,
- Check oil level.
- Replace the oil pressure sending unit.
- If the issue persists, you might be looking at a timing job with sprockets (but first consult with local mechanics! I might be wrong.)
EDIT: IT'S ALMOST CERTAINLY THE VVT SYSTEM (BRANDED AS HONDA VCT).
Did online research, it's a common issue on the Honda CRV and pretty much all 2.4L Hondas.
Replacing the sprockets and VVT solenoids (they're called VCT on Hondas) should help, but in some cases it doesn't.
Also I'm seeing people claim that letting the car sit in accessory (position II) mode for 20-30 seconds before starting helps remove the noise.
(Personally when having VVT issues, I always recommend just doing a timing chain job, but since you have only 37.5k miles I think replacing only the sprocket might be a good solution - although people claim it doesn't always solve it)
