HEY SCOTTY!! just wanna say I love your videos and thanks for taking the time to ponder about my rustangs problems.
I have a 2009 4.6 3v mustang GT (146,000 miles ) with VCT problems. I have completed a timing kit job with ford performance parts replacing the VCT solenoids, CAM phasers, CHAINS,guides, tensioners, and tensioner arms.
when I first start the vehicle sure enough she purrs like a kitten but when I get closer to a hot idle, the engine shows typical ford VCT problems with misfired on two cylinders when at a hot idle. Go to move the car and get it above 2,000 rpm and the misfire and problem goes away but returns on revs underneath 1,500. Ive been told that these engines specifically have problems with oil flow and I’m considering maybe buying a new oil pump with better flow.
a lot of times these engines are thrown away bc of this problem. I’m already 8.5k into it and was originally going to build it into a drift car when it first started having the problem. I’m going to remove a cam cap and see if it has scoring when I have tiem but I was just asking what your thoughts are about how I should go about diagnosing the problem and what advice/ tricks you have up your sleeve for getting this beast back on the road.
she’s a very very clean car, has been garage kept and dealership worked on its entire life prior to my ownership. Absolutely clean internals with no varnish, thing looks brand new when you wipe all the oil down. Seriously 0% varnish on any valve covers, cam or even the timing cover.
Appreciate the help and knowledge.

Well, the 3V's do sometimes have issues with the oil pumps up past 100k+ miles.
My suggestion...since you've already done the other parts....would be to look into something like a Melling oil pump for it to replace the old, possibly worn out Ford one. I've seen this issue a few times and if all the VCT components have been replaced properly, sometimes a new pump is the last piece of the puzzle.
As for the motor, they can go quite some time.
There is a difference whether ford gave you good OEM parts or not, and some parts are defective.
