2009 chevy malibu 3.5
I have the stereo signal hooked up to a brown wire behind the ignition switch
Don't do that.
You need to use an adapter to connect it to your factory stereo harness
I been like that since i got the car 5yrs ago
and finally the poor installation has caught up to you. I stand by my answer.
Could be that but no need to comment if you not going to help
I did help. Don't ask for help if you don't want to hear the answers.
Your answer did not help at all i changed my ignitionswitch car worked fine for a week now im havin the same issue stereo is not even hooked up to that wire nomore and that wire has power sooo by connecting the stereo to that wire did not hurt anything
Your answer did not help at all
so you bought the proper harness adapter?
I removed the stereo from ignition wire and connected it to the ecm fuse box
Never , ever connect anything to the ECM fuse.
I think you should take your car to a professional.
No did not i used a tap in fuse open my fuse box found a bad factory gm wire solderd it and now the car turns on fine im going to test it everyday
fuse taps just overload the circuit you plug them into.
I don't think you want to be helped.
What you suggest on buying then? I already have the harness only 1 wire did not have a plug n play which is the signal wire that tells stereo to turn on
What you suggest on buying then?

click on 'Car Audio' and 'Vehicle Search'
Punch in your vehicle info and hit search
It will show you everything you need to install an aftermarket stereo, including a plug & play harness, which maintains all the functions of your factory stereo, including ignition wake-up. You shouldn't need to do any fuse tapping, or ignition wire molesting. The stereo will obey the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) program of your car using the network.
When I installed a Pioneer or Clarion or Blaupunkt stereo in my vehicles, I would hook the red wire to the factory radio wire +12VDC that turns on when the ignition key is in ON or ACC position. The yellow memory wire was connected to constant +12VDC. On older American cars, the cigarette lighter wire was a good source since it was hot even when the ignition was off. If you don't have one, get an easy to read voltmeter or an automotive circuit tester with a light in the probe and start checking wires. Clamp the negative/black lead to dashboard frame metal and check the power wires going to and from your stereo. Don't forget grounding. A poor ground connection can keep your radio from working properly. The ohms setting on your meter can check un-energized circuits for resistance. The lower, the better. It should be close to the ohm reading of the ends of a piece of copper wire.
I removed the stereo from ignition wire and connected it to the ecm fuse box changed my ignition switch car worked for a whole week and a half and now its doing it again
