2018 Honda fit. Battery is always dead after a few days sitting. Its been in the shop a handful of times over the last year with about 5 new batteries in that time.
I keep being told I need to drive it more often, but cant because it never starts after 3-4 days of sitting in the driveway. Please tell me im not crazy, and this isnt normal, is there some issue with these cars?
Im getting nowhere with mechanics that just throw parts at it with no solutions, dead again 3-4 days later after they assure me its fixed.
This seems crazy to me that a car cant sit 4 days without draining the battery
Are there any known issues with this model that would cause this problem? I'm at my wits end here..
please tell me im not crazy
you're not crazy.
but should still last a week between starts?
yes it should last.
any known issues would be greatly appreciated
This is a normal problem that happens on all different cars.
save me some time poking around at it this weekend..
Sorry there's no magic tricks. You can't diagnose a problem without poking around, the same way a doctor cannot prescribe treatments without doing tests.
then they tell me im not driving enough.... they have no idea and just dont want to admit they cant fix it,
Yes. They are obviously total idiots.
Did nobody suggest an alternator? The thing that's actually responsible for recharging the battery?
You can get yours tested for free at Autozone.
Do you have any aftermarket accessories plugged into your vehicle?
I don’t know Hondas for certain but a lot of newer vehicles within the past 4 years they use a newer style battery and what’s called a smart charge type alternator that only charges as requested and all of this is to save fuel economy. On that end driving is very important and short trips especially before sitting for days on end will discharge the battery because it doesn’t get a chance to properly charge the battery before sitting. How many miles do you drive the car before it sits for multiple days?
that's not very "smart"
yes that's obvious at this point, mechanic keeps saying im not driving enough which cant be true.. small battery but should still last a week between starts?
any known issues would be greatly appreciated, may save me some time poking around at it this weekend..
please tell me im not crazy lol, advice from last it was in was just make sure to drive it 3 times a week.. think they're getting sick of me bringing it back
ughh.. every time i take it in its just a bad battery.. what car goes through 5 batteries/year? then they tell me im not driving enough... i havnt paid for any if these visits and still want my money back 🙁
think they have no idea and just dont want to admit they cant fix it, guess my meter will get a workout this weekend
