I am the original owner of a 2009 110,000 mile stick shift Honda Fit. May of 2018 I got a "Battery" warning light on the dash and the power steering went out. I drove it home and parked it, about three miles. It was parked nose uphill with the wheels cocked all the way left as that is how I turned into the drive. It sat until September 2019 as I was driving my 2000 Honda Insight which I really like.
I put a new battery in the car in September of 2019 and it started right up and ran fine except that did not like to stay centered. It liked to pull to the left or the right, Over the passing years this pulling has diminished. And after having the tires rotated the rear tires are on the front and it is hardly noticeable at all.
The local mechanics have all attached their computer scanners and have come up with nothing. Two insist it is a rack and pinion problem even though the problem is going away and unlike in September of 2019 it is barely noticeable.
What's your call? I'd really like to put this problem to bed. The little car is a great car other than this one problem.
Thank you for any guidance you can offer.
try taking it to a dedicated alignment shop
I did, twice. First said rack and pinion, second said he would check his computer and get back to me. That was a few says ago. My regular mechanic put his analyzer on it and said he would check into it. "Check into it" seems to be "I do not know."
Have you already had a front end alignment performed recently?
If not, it’s most probably your tyres.
The car has never been aligned. I have never had a front wheel drive car that needed alignment. I have been driving FWD since the 70's. Maybe it is the tires/tyres. I'll keep driving it, waiting for word from a mechanic and see what happens. Rack and pinion it is not.
Totally random. Maybe try letting it sit for a bit on the opposite side of the road, with the tires rotated the opposite direction? Maybe it will even things out?
On second thought. Don’t do that, could do more harm thanks hood. Just a wild thought.
