How do I fix reduced power mode

Hey Scotty, my girlfriend has a 2009 Chevy Impala that has throttle/engine issues. Sometimes when she tries to accelerate her traction control kicks in and doesn’t let her move. And then now recently her car has started losing power and a light pops up and says “reducing power” and then her car stops accelerating while heat stops working. The steering wheel also stiffins up and she has to pull off to the side of the road. Then after sitting and turning the car off and on the heat starts working again and the “reduced power” light goes off and car seems to go back to normal for small amount of time. It seems like a huge combination of things but I hope it wasn’t too confusing!

Thanks!

Scan it for codes and live data. You can also try cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body.

There are many causes. Simple, and not.

Any time you have a warning light, you need to have a thorough diagnostic scan to find out what the computer is having an issue with. This is explained in our FAQ which you should check first before posting.
