Just picked a Lexus ES350 with 122K miles with good service history l, but no mention of transmission fluid change. Will it be safe to do a drain and fill? Cars runs fine but considering changing it as preventative maintenance.

Nothing wrong with doing a drain and fill. As long as you don't flush it, you should be fine.

if you want your transmission to last, yes change the fluid. It's not only safe, but necessary.

Once you change the ATF, make a note of the mileage and then from that point onward change the fluid at regular intervals for longevity.
