Hello, I have a 2010 Mazda 3, 155k miles, with a manual transmission. Halfway home from work this evening my car wouldn't shift into 1st or 2nd gear at a red light. I started in 3rd and and continued, without using the first two gears. Now that I'm home everything works as it should. Why did this happen suddenly and is the car safe to drive?

Check clutch operation and the shift linkage.
