2010 Scion xD, 146600 miles, manual, OBDII #P0302
Hello Scotty, I really enjoy your YouTube channel and am a subscriber. I'm at a loss with my mini-Matrix and hope you can help.
When I rev my car to 6000 rpm, the check engine and slip indicator lights come on. The engine runs rough and loses power abruptly. The more accelerator the faster the power loss. I have to pull to the side of the road as there is no way to keep a constant speed. The idle is rough. I shut off the engine for 10 seconds, then restart and the car runs normal. The rough idle is gone and the car accelerates normally. Both engine and slip indicator lights stay on. If I rev to 6000 rpm again, the same thing happens.
My Autel OBDII scanner shows a #P0302 code, cylinder #2. I replaced all the spark plugs and all ignition coils with new Denso brand parts. I removed and cleaned the fuel injectors with a kit that alligator clips to a 12v battery and used Seafoam carb cleaner.
The wiring harness looks good. No nicks or kinks.
I cleared the code but the same problem happens if I rev to 6000 rpm. Both lights come on and the same #P0302 code shows.
The engine runs normally after restart and I average 35mpg. My commute is about 90 miles round trip a day. The car doesn't have much power, so being able to use its full power band in traffic is helpful.
I'm guessing the #2 fuel injector is bad but it worked (Valve opened) when I cleaned it. I should have put it in cylinder #1 but thought it would be good after cleaning. My other guess is that it is electrical? Any help or advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Scotty, I think you do a Great service for people who like to do simple car maintenance in their own driveways.
Thank you!
Sincerely, Mike Iwamuro

Well I would definitely slap the injectors. That's the best way to test it. Fuel injectors are very hard to test. You need to freeze frame of soles. Go up and ability to analyze the data of power ramp and fuel injection firing and recovery. It's very complex stuff but slapping it will test the time
- I'll swap the injectors and see if I get a different OBDII code to eliminate the fuel injector as the problem. Thank you for the quick response! -Mike
I swapped fuel injectors from cylinder 1 to 2. I get the same #P0302 code. Any other suggestions? Best regards -Mike
