Hello I have second gen toyota matrix thats developed a feint bell noise allmost like a tick or knock the tachometer seems to get stuck in places then just fall down.
bad torque converter or whole transmission?

Is it that the tachometer gauge that gets "stuck", or does the engine get stuck at a certain speed? A good scan tool with real-time data should show if there is a torque converter problem.
Some of the strange noises on my Matrix have been because of the heat shields and the evap system.
