Hello all,
My daughter was driving my car and told me that when she puts it into reverse it will go forward instead. If she shuts it off and starts it back up again it may go backward when in reverse but it's making unhappy noises! When it's put into drive everything seems normal so far. I have not had the chance to see the car myself and read the OBDII codes. Is this something that I should have checked out by a transmission shop, or is it not even worth the diagnosis fee? I can't see this being something simple to fix, or am I wrong? Please advise.
Thanks for your help!
I should also mention that it was recently totaled (mostly minor body damage in multiple spots) and I bought it back from my insurance company for a small amount thinking that I could squeeze maybe 50k miles out of it. I was wrong, it ended up being about 1k 🙁
I don’t think it is worth fixing. Just keep driving it till it is not drivable anymore and then junk it.
Thanks! That's what I was thinking too. I'm not going to have my daughter driving it that way, but I'll take pleasure in doing it myself 🙂 I'm still driving a 2002 LeSabre with 330k that is rigged to the max, but my frame is going to give out soon, and it'll be game over! So maybe this junk jetta has arrived just in time 🙂
Transmission problems are expensive if it isn't something simple (a mechanic should diagnose it) then I would drive it until the transmission goes out and then junk it like said above.
