I bought a 2011 HHR in 2015 with 126000 miles on it from a fleet. Shortly I removed the engine and put in a cloyes timing chain, new water pump and complete head job. I drive highway only and on a recent camping trip through the 80mph state of SD it got 30.5 MPG, With 170000 miles it runs great. I changed the bright red transmission fluid at 140000 miles. I know you have an unfavorable opinion of this vehicle from your videos. I change the oil within 6000 miles. Can I expect continued reliability because this vehicle works great for long camping trip and 50 mile grocery trip?
@panhead92
Change the oil every 5k. They are piles of junk but it isn't a Fiat so if you drive it conservatively and take care of it like you are hey it might reach 200k or maybe 250. You never know. It''s not a FCA product so it could last if you maintain it.
realize those have the energy to be one of the worst vehicles GM has made in years but hey keep taking care of it you never know you obviously take good care of your vehicles
Hi Panhead92
I own a 2008 HHR SS with 190,000 miles on it. We bought it as a 'Certified Pre-Owned' from a local Chevy dealer and I am SO glad we bought the extended warranty! The dealer must of done over $6k worth of work as well as having it down for 3 months and paying for a rental car while we waited for the 'infamous' ignition switch recall to be completed! Since all that took place several years ago its been a pretty reliable car with great performance, awesome looks (still get folks stopping and asking about it). The only major repair since the dealership experience has been the replacement of the timing chain and the ridiculous PLASTIC chain guides at 180k which cost me over $1000 to correct. I know Scotty despises the Turbo Direct Injected configuration but I have been religious about oil changes; use only high quality oil and Bosch oil filters and try to keep after all the annoying little things that seem to crop up. Would I buy another GM product? Probably not. My wife fell in love with this one and had to have it. Also, I have found some awesome late model wrecking yards where I was able to find low mileage OEM parts for less than AutoZone or O'Reillys. Good luck!
