I have a 2011 Tacoma 2.7 4 cylinder 4x4 with 260000 miles on it . It uses about a quart of oil per tank of gas. When I bought it , it had 170000 miles on it and it used a quart of oil per about 1000 miles . the catalytic converters got pugged up and the truck would only go about 70 mph top speed . when I finally figured out the problem and corrected it is when it started drinking the oil . I love the truck and do not wish to get rid of it . Junk yard motors are going for $3999 and up . I have a pretty strong background and resources mechanically. What would be the best option to either rebuild or replace my motor ??? I have been told that there is nothing I can do to recondition the cylinder walls and the block is pretty much a boat anchor. I have also been told to go with a V6 and change the wiring harness. I don't really want to do that. I'm still driving and it goes up and down the road just fine . It just has a very large appetite for oil. Needless to say I have been buying the walmart oil. Another suggestion was to change the viscosity of the oil I am using. What would you do if it was your truck and you wanted to keep it ???
Thank you

First, do a compression test to see if the rings are shot. If you decide on a new motor, get a reman from Powertrain Products, ATK, Jasper or one of those. Or, rebuild the one you have. Putting a V6 in a truck designed for an inline 4 is way more engineering than you probably want to get into. There is far more to it that just a wiring harness. $4000 for a junk yard engine is highway robbery.
