Scotty - i have a 2011 toyota sienna V6.
Replacing spark plugs is on the maintenance schedule @ 120,000 and i'm at about 118,000.
I've watched some videos on replacing the plugs and the 3 in the back require quite a bit of disassembly to get to and I'm not totally comfortable doing it. (i've done all the oil changes, trans fluid, coolant, shocks and struts, o2 sensors etc.)
I looked on all data and it's about a 4 hour job for a mechanic - probably at least a weekend for me in the driveway.
I'm guessing its a 500$+ job at toyota, and i don't have any current symptoms that make it seem necessary to do. It's an extra car for me when I need the room, not a daily driver.
Would you bite the bullet and pay someone to do it, take your time and figure it out, or just drive it till it needs it.
That's typical on transverse V6 engines. I'd pay someone to do it. Yes, it's expensive, but only has to be done ever 120K miles. Get it done and you're good for another 10 years. (At least it's not like the good old days when plugs needed to be replaced every 10K-12K miles, along with ignition points.)
If you pay someone to do it, please do not go to the Toyota dealer. Find an independent, honest mechanic to do the job for you - a competent mechanic (on the level of Scotty) can do it. Nothing special that requires a visit to the dealer, and they usually have monkeys do the work anyways and end up causing more issues.
I would take my time, figure it out and do it myself.
