Hello Scotty, my 2012 Camry was running very good so far, last week. doing 60 mph; i Noticed temperature gauge dropped down suddenly, no spot to park on, so I drove 5-6 miles further to -safely- park, a few feet from rest area, the car stopped and all kind of lights turned on at dashboard. It was towed to dealership and -after 50$US diagnostic fee- told me engine is permanently damaged (overheated) and a new one costs 15K (he he he) (nervous laugh), car is barely 10K. What could have happened??, any thoughts?

OBD and video here 😕

Dealer probably wants you to get a new car so wouldn’t surprise me they say that. If I were you, I’d get a second opinion from an honest, independent mechanic to see if you really need a new engine.

As for the codes, see the sticky here (and there is a link inside where you can look up what those codes mean and cause/troubleshooting steps):

Looks like your head gasket blew. It could have been low on coolant, or who knows. I don't know the history of this engine.

If you're lucky, it only needs head work. If you bent some piston rods, then yeah the engine is done.
