I was told by a mechanic that my rack was bad and needed to be changed. When you move the tire in and out from right to left there was a clunk in the rack. like it had a bit of looseness in the gear but when I drive the car the steering works perfectly. I took off the tires and checked the joints. I noticed the Sway Bar links had worn rubbers but everything else looked good. I also noticed weights missing off the tires which might be the cause of wobble in the front at 28mph. I'm going to have them balanced before putting them back on, however, I did not see anything wrong with the rack parts. When I went in to the mechanic it was for the wobble. As far as the looseness in the rack it is about a 1/4inch or less in the rack gear not the gear used for steering wheel. Please let me know. 2012 nissan versa sedan 1.6s engine.

Where you try your solution first just realize you want to see if you have any play if it's in the outer tie rod or the inner tie rod first often the rack is okay but it's the tie rods that need replacing and they aren't that expensive

Well, if I put my hand on the rack near the steering pinion I can feel a little clunk when the wheel is turned quickly side to side. I also noticed the weights were off on one of the front wheels. Goin to take all four in and have them balanced. That should take care of the wobble but the steering is still fine, no grinding or anything. Thanks Scotty I'm a big fan and enjoy your videos. Cheers!
