I am looking at this 2013 corolla S and I am thinking about buying it for 8,500 $ I asked the owner if they ever changed the transmission fluid and they said no they only had it inspected and they never changed it because the manual said it did not need to be done. if everything checks out well and I decide to buy the car would it be safe to change the transmission fluid to extend the life of the car I plan on making it my daily driver. Link will be in the description I plan on looking at the car on sunday.
The seller is either ignorant or lying because the service schedule for this vehicle from Toyota states Item 27 - transmission and differential fluids must be changed at 40 and 80K miles.
Toyota’s transmission fluid is due by their manufacturers recommendation at 60,000 miles (even though they’ll tell you that you never change the fluid as long as you drive your vehicle in normal driving conditions.) however there’s no such thing as a normal driving condition. How’s the fluid look? Are there metals pieces or shavings in the fluid? Does the transmission currently shift smooth? If I just bought it, I would definitely consider changing it. If I bought it and the car shifts smooth and the fluid doesn’t look half bad, I would change it. Also change coolant. It’s due after 10 years or 100,000 miles. With 120,000 miles on the car, it just makes sense to change the fluid as well.
The information provided here by Adunn is inaccurate. The information I gave you is from the 2013 Corolla S owner's manual maintenance schedule, from Toyota. I would look for another vehicle.
