Hi Scott,
2 years ago I bought my wife a 2014 Kia Sorento. From the 1st day it had locking problems. Sometimes it works from the key fob, using the key in the lock, or the button inside. Sometimes none of them work.
Sometimes after driving some distance it begins working so I suspected a bad battery. Replacing it didn't help. The dealer did a software upgrade to the 4 cylinder engine and tried to look at my locking problem but couldn't duplicate it. They thought it might be the brain.
Help please.

You are saying that with the key itself, it sometimes can not lock/unlock the door? If this is the case, it is the key issue of your door lock assembly.
