2014 Silverado w/ 190k miles transmission
What mileage do these transmissions usually go out? Should it make it to 220k or 240k? 250k?
scotty Kilmer has been wrong about every Chevy we’ve owned so far btw it’s the six speed never had the fluid changed either.

That’s nothing to brag about. You should be changing the transmission fluid every 40,000 miles to get the most out of the transmission. Consider yourself very lucky you made it that far on the original fluid. You should go out and buy a lotto ticket, now.
never had the fluid changed
in that case it could fail tomorrow.
Great non-answer thanks
if you don't change the fluid, then you're lucky if it makes it past 120k without issues.
My dads 2018 has 120k miles on the original fluid too lol
like I said, lucky. I prefer not to tempt fate.
fluid changes on any of these trucks btw
I wouldn't go around town bragging about this. All fluids need to be changed. If you're lazy and knowing you're taking chances on how well those trucks hold up to corrosion (coolant needs changed, or it eventually turns acidic, and a hot engine speeds up the corrosion process). It'll eventually leave you stranded. Engineers created your owner's manual, not you, engineers know what they're doing.
Never said oil changes aren’t important they obviously are
Just said that trans fluid changes are needed near as much as they say they are

In your case you have never changed it. That’s a big difference!
.
Anyway, it’s all nonsense. Your transmission is on burrowed time. No one has a crystal ball to say how much longer yours will last.
we had changed the fluid and both they blew soon after
with how many miles on them? what did the fluid that came out look like? were they drained and refilled, or flushed?
did you autopsy the transmissions to find out why they blew?
It sounds like you drawing incorrect conclusions out of thin air.
Even a broken clock is wrong 2x a day. Anyways, you beat the odds. I have 2 GM vehicles that also beat the odds. Pat on the back for both of us, but I wouldn’t recommend GM vehicles.
Crazy cuz our two 2013s were both reliable too despite them being AFM trucks sold one of them with 305k miles transmission I want to say went out at 200k or 205k miles but obviously that’s a different Gen then my 2014 which is why I asked to begin with how much longer it will last
no fluid changes on any of these trucks btw
I can't understand why anyone would intentionally neglect maintenance. I guess you're rich or don't care about your stuff much.
Nope I think transmission fluid changes aren’t that necessary is all
My coworker had a 2000ish Toyota tundra he changed his fluid and it still went out at 180k miles I believe he said also 3 sets of lower ball joints
My family has changed the fluid on ford rangers and that made the transmissions fail soon after I’m sure they waited too long but since then my dad doesn’t change the fluid and all the vehicles still work including my moms 2009 Honda fit with 157,000 miles original trans
that's nonsense. Any mechanic will tell you that.
Actually one mechanic’s receptionist who had been at the shop for years said she never changes her fluid and her car had over 200k miles on it
Ironically the mechanic lied to me and charged 2 hours to take off my grill guard for a repair in the engine bay and never took it off and I saw their footprints on the grill guard so they stood on it
So you’re right I should trust the mechanic that adds 2 hours of labor to my bill for something they didn’t do not the Freudian slip from the receptionist that’s been there a decade
I never said your mechanic was trustworthy.
👍 good luck

Why don’t you listen to Scotty and other good, honest mechanics like The Car Wizard and The Care Care Nut who have been working on cars for decades and know far more what they are talking about. They all recommend to change transmission fluid every so often.
.
I am sure glad you are not my mechanic.
So you think I'm wrong? Well I go by the average of vehicles. I work on. An average Julie, those GM transmissions will go out before 200,000 mi. Perhaps you are a very gentle driver. Don't pull that much weight. Don't haul that much stuff. With my experience. That's the truth
Ok thank you Scotty for answer
Didn’t mean to offend just saying we’ve had good lucky with every Chevy we’ve had except for the 2011 Chevy Colorado 5 cylinder that blew up at 130k miles I believe it was an isuzu design
Ok so my six speed usually blows before 200k miles got it. Thank you

It depends on how you drive your truck. On the highway constantly is only equal to around 10% of city driving. It also depends on how you drive your truck. 0-60 as quick as possible produces a heck of a lot more strain on the tranny than driving it like an old lady. It's just as much the driver as it is the transmission. It's anyone's guess, especially since you've never changed the transmission fluid.
My work day typically consist of going to an average of 8 houses a day that are all usually within the same two towns so it’s mostly city driving. little highway driving
It’s also lifted 4.5” w/ a zone kit which people seem to say the truck will wear out quicker but not in my experience
Consider yourself lucky. That luck is going to run out.
Oh also my dads 2018 has 120k miles has had zero issues as well no fluid changes on any of these trucks btw

Evidently, you don't know how automatic transmissions work. Brand new automatics have friction material adhered to the transmission itself. As the fluid ages, the transmission fluid will be friction material material by itself if you don't change it for 100,000 miles. As soon as you change it, the transmission starts to slip, which is the exact opposite of what you want it to do. The idea is to keep the transmission fluid clean.
Nope I’m aware of that and that’s what happened to the ford rangers we had changed the fluid and both they blew soon after
I’ll come back to update this comment when my transmission reaches 200k then again at 220k most likely

Best of luck is all I can say.
