Topic starter

2014 Toyota Avalon 3.5 V6 Limited. Automatic, front wheel drive, 79500 miles. Regular 5k mile oil changes for life of vehicle. No codes when using BlueDriver scan tool. No rough idle. When starting the car, the rpms are around 1100, but slowly drop down to around 700. Moderate white smoke at startup from exhaust that smells of gasoline. Fuel injector? O2 sensor? I don't put poor quality gasoline in it. Coolant reservoir is full. No leaks under the car. Engine bay is dry.

Like Old Guys Rule, said, at start up on cold, high humidity days, you'll get translucent white smoke for a while that will go away.  The gasoline smell could be the very rich mixture the computer is calling for when the engine is cold.  The rpm info sounds normal.

White smoke at start up in cold weather is normal due to condensation. The smell of gasoline is not. It could be due to several things. The Blue Driver should be helpful in diagnosis using live data. You'll never figure it out by guessing. Good luck.

I live in Florida, so cold weather isn't the culprit. And yeah, guessing isn't what I'm going for, I was just hoping there was a pattern with these engines that show a history of it being one thing or the other. I'll try to figure out how to understand the live data on my scanner {black}

It most likely the water vapors. You can check the coolant level to make sure it is not burning coolants.

Florida changes things a bit for sure but remember humidity is also part of the equation like Doc mentioned. I still see some white smoke with my vehicles in the summer on cold start ups. More in the winter. Comparison with other vehicles is a good gauge.
You can find an abundance of information about live data and Blue Driver on the internet and you can always come back here if you have questions.
