Hey Scotty. I'm coming up on 100,000 miles on my 2014 Passat. I did the tranny fluid change at 50k and am now going to do it at 100k. Should I do the tranny filter, also? This passat has the 6 speed Aisin transmission and has been great. Thanks!
TLDR: If possible, always change it when you change your ATF.
with your VW now having 100k miles, it’s a good idea to change the ATF much more frequently.
On most European spec Passats imported to the US (and most older transmission designs in general) (German built B6/B7) it’s simple and cheap to do and you should always do it.
If your car happens to be a “US domestic production” (aka Chinese spec) A32/A33 Passat (there are a lot of these in the US. The car was developed by Chinese SAIC and made in Tennessee so that they can avoid paying taxes) then on most of these, a transmission filter replacement might be too difficult and expensive to perform - in some cases it does require a full tear down.

look how deep down in the transmission the filter is.
both use Aisin, one uses the TF-80SC and the other a TF-60SN series transmission. There are some others too.
@MountainManJoe thanks for letting me know of this question

What I said here is applicable only to Aisin trannies not Jatco/DSG.
The time stamp on the second video got messed up, it should've been 7:49
Extra points if the video had an automatic shifter!
@InThrustWeTrust
I mean their automatic shifters are already a joke…

It’s such a common occurrence especially on DSGs to trip all kinds of “steering wheel electronic” fault codes because of their crappy shifters… the worst part of that is that they charge $1,000 for the part alone.
Hahaha exactly!
Sure, if it has one. But check the condition of the fluid first -
