I have a 2015 Chevy Equinox that I purchased in 2018 with 35,000 miles. It now has 97,000 miles on it. I have changed the oil every 5000 miles and kept up with all maintenance since I have had it. It has the 2.4l 4cyl. A couple of years ago it blew out the rear main seal in the winter. Since then I have learned there is an oil catch can that can eliminate this risk. Is it true and is it worth doing?
Have you changed out your PCV valve lately?
Your understanding is incorrect. There is a PCV valve located at the rear of the valve cover, right hand side of the engine. They are available from O'Reilly and everywhere else. Part number is V518. They need to be replaced on a regular basis so your engine doesn't blow out the oil seals.
It's my understanding that there is not an actual pcv valve but rather there is just an orifice in the intake. I've seen some YouTube videos where guys tried to make the orifice larger but it usually ends up in an epic fail.
