Howdy -
I'm looking at the following two vehicles [below]. I'm interested in which one will last the longest and generally the cheapest to repair - so generally the best bang for the buck. I hear Mazda resolved any issues in their 2021 model. I'm not a fan of the cylinder deactivation as I hear that can cause reliability issues according to some people.
I hear that the timing cover gaskets on the Toyota 3.5L 2GR-FE has fairly common problems with generally minor leaks.
I currently have an Audi Q5 60k miles I bought used with low miles that I want to get rid of before it has issues. I really enjoy the ride and sound blocking of the cabin.
I test drove a 2015 Toyota Camry 3.5L that was very zippy, but I think I may prefer a crossover/SUV since it's easier to see when changing lanes and less road noise.
AWD could be useful since I live in a snow state and do occasional winter road trips, but generally don't drive too much in it. I agree FWD only generally has less maintenance.
2015 Lexus RX 350 AWD - 115k miles for $19k. Lexus Dealership.
-Oil, brake, and other fluids replaced on time. Transmission/Diff fluid replaced at 60k miles
-Will check frame for rust
-Will check for OBD codes and get it checked out by a mechanic if buying.
-The previous Camry I looked at from this dealer had the fault codes recently cleared, as it was recently acquired. This one is a recent one they got also so I expect the same. No fault codes after 10 miles.
Owner 1: 15.5k miles per year / 2 year owner
Owner 2: 11.5k miles per year / 7 year owner
***Accident reported at 15k miles. Vehicle involved in a side impact collision with another motor vehicle -- Damage to right front -- Airbags did not deploy -- Disabling damage reported
2021 MAZDA CX-30 AWD - 23k miles for $22k. Mazda Dealership
Mazda Certified Warranty - 7yr/100k miles; 12mo/12k miles limited warranty
-6 speed Aisin Transmission
I'd like the Lexus for the luxury coming from a Q5 but the Mazda would be a safe bet for 7 years at the very least. I only drive about 7-10k miles per year.
Thank you!
The price of the Lexus with that mileage is ridiculous. If the Mazda checks out ok, then it may be an ok purchase.
