Hello,

I have a 2015 Nissan Altima with 25k miles on it. These cars have a reputation for their poorly made CVT transmissions. Are there any steps I can take to prevent mine from goiig?

Thanks,

Colin

Change the transmission fluid every 30k miles, do a drain+fill NOT a flush, and don't drive like a maniac.

If you are lucky you might get 100-120k miles out of the CVT, usually earlier than that, so I would get rid of it before then if you can get any sort of money for it. CVT replacement/repairs are around $4000-$7000 so you really don't want to own a Nissan when the time comes.

Some of the Nissan CVTs (not sure if its your exact unit) have an officially given 90k mile life-span.

Why not a Flush? Thinking about flushing my CVT since its hitting 90,000

Flushing transmissions have a higher risk than a regular drain+fill. Generally, problems can start to occur. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. But its recommended to avoid flushing as it could cause problems, espeically if done incorrectly.

I suggest to get more responses make a new question on whether to flush or drain and fill.

I like your answer friend. Thanks for the insight. Talked to Nissan tech and he did a drain and fill for me saying about the same thing. Waste of money and risky.

Drive carefully religiously. Stick to regularly scheduled maintenance every 5k to 7k miles. Nissan says every 30k miles or so swap CVT  fluid. So I suggest the same.

Yeup, CVT fluid dump (not flush) every 35-40k
