2015 Chevy sonic 1.4 timing cover broken code p0017 won't crank any more. Should it still crank if cover broken. Belt still in place
The Sonic 1.4 has a timing chain and is an interference engine. Your timing chain is out of phase with the crankshaft, possibly due to chain failure which may have also precipitated damaging the timing cover. Being an interference engine you may have pistons crashing into valves, preventing the starter from spinning the engine. Physical inspection is required to determine if this has happened.

the car is known for engine problems ( https://www.samarins.com/reviews/sonic_2012.html ), but if you crashed it then all bets are off.

The car has a belt not chain. Was in an accident was still running and cut off. I don’t need it jumped timing just asking before I replace the cover. Also the secondary pump was out of wack. The codes. I can be wrong tho
You are correct it’s a 1.8, ok so the guy I got car from got in a wreak car was running fine. He drive about 5mikesnfrom wreck cut off. When I got car the second air pump was busted. The timing cover broken and belt a lil worn but no broken. Also wires look pinch but I can’t really tell. codes I’m getting are
