Hello,
I have a 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i with 162,000 miles. Hoping to get the most out of this vehicle and was thinking about doing some pro-active part replacements. The miles are mostly highway miles. So far I have replaced the spark plugs, break pads, battery once and kept up on the fluid changes. Is there something else I should consider replacing? The areas I am considering is the alternator and the starter. Is that a good idea to pro-actively replace parts before they break? Is there any other parts I should consider replacing?
Thanks,
Mike R.
Starters and alternators are very long-lived components, I wouldn't replace those. Ditto for fuel pump and water pump. (The car is only 7 years old.) Probably the most important thing is to keep up with normal maintenance and if equipped with automatic transmission (CVT) do regular fluid changes at about 30K mile intervals.
Lubrication is the key to longevity. What about your differential oil changes and various greased zerk fittings on the vehicle? Have they been attended to? What about a brake system flush and refill, pcv valve, coolant, thermostat and wheel bearing greasing and re-torqueing? Check all belts and hoses too.
