Hey Scotty! I've heard people on several occasions bad mouthing Subaru for their 6 cylinder engines and their CVT transmissions. I've personally own 2 of them, a '15 Forester 2.5 and my current Legacy 3.6R. The Forester had over 100k miles on the original trans with no issues. I currently have 70k on my 6 cylinder legacy with no issue whatsoever. What are your thoughts?
One you are a lucky man and two you probably don't drive all that hard.all my customers with the six cylinder Subaru is that drive hard the engines are already clacking away with less than 80,000
This is true. I've always owned either Subaru or Toyota vehicles and I've been very happy with both. I've always done my own maintenance and babied
my vehicles
Give it another 50k miles. You will likely see issues.
I've had three Subarus and two Toyotas all well over 100k with the exception of my current 3.6 Legacy so we'll see. I drive conservatively and have never had any problems with Subaru's engines or
CVT transmissions.
CVT will drive smooth until they break. Its what they are going for. The rubber belt inside wears with age and eventually will just start to slip one day.
It does help driving conservatively though.
Today's CVTs use steel belts. It was the old DAF Variomatic that used rubber belts.
Also Subarus, unlike Nissan, etc use a metal chain system. They are more responsive and have smoother operation overall. In my opinion it was Nissan that gave CVTs a bad name in the first place
