Looking for more ideas of what could be wrong.

A little over a year ago car started over heating (coolant reservoir boiling and if not boiling bubbling??); took to a local shop in Vegas and making a very, very long story short they had one of primary car's (Wife's Car) for 4 weeks and 3 days. They replace the flowing:

1st: Fan, water pump, radiator. they ran block test ok $$$. 2nd Got back still overheating, sent back, they ran block test failed, they took off head sent out and had the head re done aka new valves, guides and such, head machined and new RTV I assume  for head gasket $$$$.

Got back had some of and on DTC saying timing was off P0011, they said change the oil every 1,000 for 3 interval should clean up. That for the most part seem to have worked but not fully.. Have not addressed since...

Today: 16K miles later.

2 days ago doing same thing happed again and temping out. Coolant was low, refilled, I ran block test myself was ok still blue, Replaced cap, still rant have bubbling/boiling issue.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks Doc!
I was wondering the same thing; surely with all that work it would seem insane to not have replaced and or even have checked the thermostat. I have the care back to that shop today, because the head work is still under warranty supposedly.. But I'm sure they are going to try and nail me with something; I will also attempt to have them truly address the P0011 thing that is now just intermittent, sound like it was just a pure coincidence on the oil thing; they may have been counting on some sort of auto adjust for the timing or some craziness ? I will see what they say... And no I will not be taking the car back to them outside any warranty work that may be in place, heck I might even have to say screw that and just go someplace else period.

The p0011, timing over advanced, tells me they did the timing chain wrong. @Khansen20

Update:
They said water pump failed, out of warranty by 3 months but they said they called the part supplier and they went ahead and warrantied it out, so they passed that along to me at no charge even on the service/labor side as well. They also said they did replace the thermostat as well supposedly. They re- ran block test to make sure head casket was still ok. They also supposedly (re-timed the chain aka repositioned it I guess??).. on the P0011 issue...We will see...Good new is there was no charge this time around. Thanks Doc for your guidance on this!

The RTV is not for the head gasket, they go on dry.  It was probably for the water pump gasket.  If the timing is off, it means they installed the timing chain wrong.  Changing the oil will not help.  The job needs to be redone by someone who actually knows what they are doing.  I would go get my money back and find somebody else to do the work.  Did anybody think to see if the thermostat was stuck closed?
