My husbands 2015 Prius V with 33K miles hit a deer on 30th October 2021. Totally damaged the front passenger quarter of the vehicle including the radiator reservoir. The insurance company decided to fix because the initial estimate was $5.5K. There was so much damage they ended up costing them $14K on a vehicle that is valued at about $28-20K. These Toyota Hybrids are expensive to repair!
On Monday 7th March it overheated because they missed a cracked radiator hose connector. My husband let it cool, taped up the hose, added off brand coolant and drove home slowly. I replaced the hose plus drained and refilled the coolant. Seems to be working well now. Should we trade it in before something else pops up? My husband loves it because of the great fuel efficiency. I hate how it drives because I am a gear head and used to fix cars with my father. Plus, I am afraid it is going to cost us more money to fix down the road.
I would hang on to it and hope for the best assuming it didn't severely overheat. The plastic hose connector was probably an honest mistake. Those cracks can start quite small and spread quickly. The cost of a comparable replacement car will be insane and with accident disclosure on your hybrid vehicle, it may not fetch such a good price. Just my opinion.
Thanks. I don't think it severely overheated but I don't think we would get the KBB price for it with this accident history.
To put your mind at ease you can do a headgasket check to make sure that it wasn't damaged when it overheated. Id keep it with these gas prices.
Thanks! I will do a head gasket check on her to put my mind at ease.
