[Solved] Should I change my ATF

I have a 2016 Honda CRV AWD with 94,000 miles. The maintenance code came up about a month and a half ago to change the engine oil along with the trans fluid and differential fluid. Did the engine oil no problem. The CRV has 94k miles and this would be the first time ever performing a drain & fill on the transmission. I'm worried that it might be too late to perform the transmission fluid replacement. The transmission has never given me any problems and I'm worried that it might start to give me problems with the new fluid. I already purchased all genuine Honda fluids and parts and ready to perform the fluid change. What are you guys think?

Go ahead and change it now and then I would change it every 50,000 mi after that. Honda's a pretty good transmissions, but they do need clean fluid and if you plan on keeping it a really long time, you should change it. Now. If you're going to get rid of it in 20,000, mi or less, I wouldn't even bother

If this vehicle has a CVT, you’d be better off replacing it even more frequently than Scotty’s recommendation -

@itwt so would every 30,000 mi be better after I replace the fluids this time?

@vargas7875 Great idea!

@itwt I was actually advised by a mechanic couple years ago, that draining the fluid destroys automatic transmissions something about The normal wear of the transmission is exacerbated by the new fluid and that is better just to leave it alone I have no idea if this is true I'm actually wondering if anyone can validate or discredit this

@Bodyonus according to your mechanic's logic you'd never change the fluid? Deciding to change old fluid depends on several factors. The FAQ cover what should be considered when changing transmission fluid.

so would every 30,000 mi be better

30k is a safe interval

This gentleman doesn't have a conventional automatic transmission. He has a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). They are different.

Mostly untrue. And it's only valid for automatics that have been severely neglected and are about to give up. Details are in our FAQ
