Should I trade in my 2016 Honda Odyssey for a sedan?

I have a 2002 Toyota Sienna, a 2009 Honda Civic, and a 2016 Honda Odyssey. I'm thinking about trading in my Odyssey because I don't use it that much and I believe that I will have positive equity that I can use to buy a sedan. This sedan is for my son as he is going to have a job soon, so should I trade it in, and if so, which used Honda should I get? Thanks.

The CVT's from the earlier years are somewhat weak Up untill 2016 ish. The 6 speeds are alright but more or less weak. DO NOT GET ANY ACCORD BEFORE 2013 bc of transmission, engine, brake, etc. issues. Manuel transmissions are better. 2011 Civic is a jewl you might want to give that to him or 2014 Fit.

Your son called and said he would prefer this one:

@carlos
I don't think I want him playing around in that car lol

He should consider the 2014-2015 Civic or Honda Accord manuel.

Is the Accord's automatic transmission bad?

Alright, I already had the 2011 Civic in mind, so with an Accord, you're saying look for a newer one?

Yes at least 2013. Can he drive a manuel? If not, the CVT's from 2016 or 2017 are alright or the 6 speeds. But remember the manuel transmission from Honda, though I don't have experience driving them, are great. Passing him down the 2011 Civic is not a bad idea as the 2011 Civic is the last year Civic's had that quality. 2012 ruined it and the newer one's have oil dellusion. A manuel transmission 4 cylinder low milage Honda Accord from 2014 or so is your best bet.

2008-2020 or present day ALL Accords (except 10th gen 1.5) are all reliable. I don't know why you're saying they all have transmission problems.

the 2008-2012 have break issues. 2013 was the first year of cvt with some problems.

@kerem-umut-kerem
Brake issues like..?

"The eighth-generation Accord sedan and coupe (2008 to 2012) have received numerous complaints about excessive brake wear and noise, high oil consumption, engine misfires, and air conditioning problems. The oil consumption and misfire issues seem to be caused by faulty piston rings"

The Camry's of that gen had problems too. These Accords were less reliable than in 2007 and 2013. If you have to you might as well get a V6 from that gen but the engines and brakes were notorious for issues.

The year with the highest reliability and owner satisfaction was 2013. Of the Accord's numerous redesigns, the 2003 and 2008 changes seemed to introduce new problems.

Where are you getting this information?

You can find it commly through google searches youtube videos, "car wizard", scotty himself, as well as surveyers like consuemr reports. 2008-2012 Honda Accord's are OK and some have been recalled but a 2013 would be a better buy by far. Scotty himself said that 2011 and older Accord's have automatic transmission problems. If you don't agree that's fine. For short, they are reliable but do have common problems that should be checked by a mechanic.

He is trading in a 2016 Odyssey and he could easily get a good condition 2013. If he wants, because it's for his son, he could get a 2005-2007 Honda Accord 4 cylinder, those are decent. I just don't understand why you insist on the 2008 when the 2007 is much cheaper and the 2013 is such a better made and modern car for not that much more than the 2012's.

That is exactly what I wanted (and expected) to know from you.
You can't just go by consumer reports for everything. ACUTAL experiences from owners and techs is what you need to know. I personally had a 2011 with ZERO issues until it got totaled at 70k miles (got replaced with a 9th gen) I never had any issues with the brakes on either btw.
If you actually knew a thing or two about Hondas, you would know that 03-07 accords had a weaker transmission than the 08-12, the 5-speed in the 8th gen was much more robust. 2013 was the first year they introduced the CVT, whole of 9th gen they didn't have much problems. VCM problems were not that common in the 9th gen accords, they were more in the heavy cars like odyssey, mdx, etc.
You can't go off of consumer reports or some other random reviewer who only has the car for a few days. Actual owners who had the cars and techs who specialize in them are who you need to look up to.

Honda Accord or Camry. Be aware of 2007-2011 camry and 2008-2012 oil burning issues.
