Hey there!! 2016 Pilot awd Elite Trans failed at 105k, even with the regular 30k trans service($400 drain & fill). Yes, it's the stupid German ZF 9spd!! Dealership replaced (extended warranty, thank God) with a "comp or better" 47k rebuilt one. It's still in the "break-in" period. It's 300 miles in and still shifts worse than previous trans did in low gears. Here's the thing: We've only owned it since July of 2021 and It's had the rough shifting since we bought it. We complained to selling Dealership within weeks of buying and they're saying they will work with us to get us into something else.
What to do? I'm wanting an Enclave with only 6spd. Maybe 2017. Advice, please.
Moving to an Enclave would be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
Demand it be fixed correctly by a certain date or say you're contacting the state atty general & your lawyer. To make sure it's"finally" done right, I'd still bring it to someone that can ensure this is the case.
Just as an example of how useful the atty general can be, (in your case either in regards to lemon law or warranty) three years back I contacted mine over a $25.xx paypal dispute & the guy actually went after them down to the last penny, couldn't believe it. Took close to six months so I think it became a case of "oh they think they'll be smug with me? Ok!" So if the office will chase someone down over what they'd consider a laughable amount, yours should be happy to make an example out of that dealer.
Gotta make sure you do so well before the warranty is up to both make sure it gets done & so that repair isn't shoddy garbage too or they'll keep dragging you along.
I'd see if going to a third party transmission specialist (who can rebuild it with better parts if available/maybe knows some bulletproofing fixes)is covered that way they can just bill the dealer.
Sell this one and get yourself a Toyota or at least avoid any car with this 9 speed transmission.
I used to dream about 8-10 speed auto trannys just for the sheer range of gearing which could be employed but it looks like my dreams were smooshed😄
Someday I'll get a gear vendors splitter, I suppose that'll be a decent compromise with an O.D. tranny....maybe an Allison, I hear those take some serious abuse so granny driving should make for an actual lifetime transmission if maintained.
What is a "comp or better"? If this car is giving you bad nightmares then get rid of it.
Comparable or better. The rebuilt is sourced from Honda and carries a 12mo unlimited mileage warranty...I'm lost as to what to do {black}:idontknow:
Put the gorilla suit on and get on their backs to honor the warranty. Either that or dump the Pilot on Carmax or a similar dumping ground for bad cars and buy a replacement vehicle with a better transmission.
Typical for these, usually they last 90k. The fact your one was rebuilt at under 50k says it all.
It should not have shift feel - get another replacement (the most feel it can have is 2 slightly longer shifts that are done with mechanical clutches)
In 2-3 replacements they’ll probably find one that works well enough to dump the stupid thing.
I would not ever buy a modern Honda with a turbo or an automatic - Scotty and others still say they’re reliable but most of them are garbage, where I live Honda has less release-value than Chevrolet and those are also crap.
I agree with @chucktobias , getting the enclave isn’t a good idea at all.
