I have been looking for a half ton and found a 2016 Ram Rebel with the 5.7l Hemi engine at a local Chrysler dealership. The truck only has 35,000 miles on it and is in excellent shape. The salesman has shown me all the paperwork and the truck has been well maintained and has not been off road or done any towing. The transmission is an 8 speed automatic manufactured by German ZF. Are these trucks reliable and are they worth the $30,000 asking price?
I have to admit, the Hemi V8 is a decent engine. But since a vehicle is more than just a motor...
The rest of the vehicle is FCA and over the long run (esp. electronics) will not hold up. You have to look at the complete picture whenever looking at vehicles. Depending on your constraints (you didn’t say), and for long term reliability, you are better looking at the Toyota Tundra or a 2011-2017 Ford F-150 with the 5.0L (with 2011-2014 being the best years).
