Whats the problem on my bmw e60, 520d, 2009 year, 120kw, 2.0 diesel engine with number n47d20c, that couses rattling sound:
Any help appriciated, im broke to pay the mechanic due to some loans i took for investments. Trying to diy fix the car.

You want to hope & pray it’s not your timing chain/tensioner that’s on it’s way out, as the N47 in the 520d is - n o t o r i o u s - for that!
It has around 300k kilometers on the clock.
If its timing chain, than i would hear the sound when accelerating, but this sound is only active in idle position.
Only metallic sound in the background is worrying me.
well a lot of it is just playing a worn-out diesel engine but I agree with the previous comment that it's probably the timing chain and tensioner going out you're looking at a fortune to work on a BMW diesel engine if you're not in love with the car sell it now

Could the noise be produced by the carbon on spark plugs or some kind of spark plug defect?
