Hi Scotty,

Was looking at a 2017 Honda  Accord Touring Sedan, sharp looking car it has about 70k miles and has a

3.5L V6 engine and I thought you said something about this particular engine. The salesman said it doesn't have a turbo, and it is an automatic not a CVT. But when I looked under the hood I think it does have that Dream Works engine in it. They are asking about 22k by the time you add all the fees, sales tax, etc. Do you think that is a car worth considering or should I just buy a brand new Accord or Civic. What do you think>

Isn’t the brand new Accord starting at $24,000?

Where I live they are really proud of them the lowest I see is around $25,900 to $28,000

The engine in the 2017 Honda Accord Touring sedan is the 3.5L V6 which has cylinder deactivation (or what Honda calls Variable Cylinder Management or VCM) which can potentially wear out/damage the engine over time unless it has been disabled (via aftermarket) which mitigates (but does not eliminate) the issue.  If it has not been disabled (which could void a warranty claim) then at 70,000 miles it’s not clear how far along the engine is in wear and tear.  If it was not disabled, it is absolutely critical to be on top of the engine oil change intervals as the VCM needs clean oil to operate properly (not clear if previous owner was changing the engine oil religiously).
